'My mother turned to me and said,
"If you kiss him you won't dream about him."
Well, I couldn't stand him.
He was laying there, in his coffin, stone-cold, I had never felt or seen a dead body before.'

This series confronts the cycle of domestic violence and trauma that has affected the women in my family for generations.

The work is a visual response to the indiscernibility of domestic narratives that appear in the family album. The work acts as an alternative record formed from staged scenes, constructed from my interpretations of these stories handed down to me by these women throughout my life.

By reconstructing and appearing in the images, I embody the characters and their mannerisms to look back at the experiences these women have had and question how much of their psychological, and genetic past I have carried forward in my own life. Through this process I am creating a new visual record, filling the missing gaps in my maternal family’s history.
