FROM THE ARCHIVE : August Update
It’s been a busy summer for us at Ffotogallery reestablishing our Library and Archive in the main gallery space of our building. Whilst it’s taken us a little longer to set up in it’s new home than anticipated, Chloe our Archive Project Officer has been making discovery after discovery!
We now need you, our brilliant supporters, to help us collect information that will improve our knowledge of Ffotogallery’s history.

Ffocws 2025 Open Call
Ffocws is open to artists and photographers based in Wales, working with photography or moving-image who have completed an undergraduate degree (BA) or postgraduate degree (MA or MFA) in any creative discipline in the last 12 months.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-organised Volunteers Co-ordinator / Intern to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain meaningful, practical experience in arts engagement and volunteer coordination within an inclusive visual arts setting.

Dr Durre Shahwar & Rhys Slade-Jones announced as National Lottery Heritage Fund commissioned artists
Ffotogallery are delighted to announce that the two artists for the Heritage Lottery Fund commission launched earlier this year will be Dr Durre Shahwar (Disabled Artists commission) and Rhys Slade-Jones (LQBTQ+ commission).
This commission, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will give these two wonderful artists a chance to produce a body of work responding to our archive.

The Feminist Library is back!
The Feminist Library is back! Launched in October 2024 during Ffoto Cymru, our International Photography Festival, The Feminist Library is a space to listen, learn and discuss ideas.
We would like to thank the Paul Mellon Centre , whose generous funding has enabled us to continue these sessions.
Events are open to the public, free to attend and hosted monthly from July - December 2025.

If you’ve visited our latest exhibition, you may have noticed that we have made some major structural changes to the layout of the gallery during our last changeover. Due to a capital funding grant from Arts Council of Wales, we have been working on making much of our resources more accessible to the public

Siria Ferrer (She/Her) will be photographing LGBTQ+ crew who have worked on Bad Wolf shows since 2017 as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.

Memories in Motion - Audrey Albert at Manchester School of Art
Belongers may be over here at Ffotogallery, but the journey continues with Audrey Albert's work featuring as part of "Moving Images: Audiovisual Representations of Migration and Migrants" event up in Manchester later this month.

Six exciting new photographic careers launched at Ffocws
Liam Anthony, Lucy Beckett, Llŷr Evans, Taiye Omokore, Alina Potapenko and Madiha Malik have been selected for this opportunity this year, and will present their work at Ffotogallery in a new exhibition opening with a public preview 6pm, 29 May 2025.

We thought it would be great to start sharing all the wonderful things we’re discovering whilst we start digitising and cataloguing our archive, made possible by the generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Players.
This month, we’ve been busy digitising all of Ffotogallery’s exhibition posters over the years.

Shadowing Opportunity for Women and Non-Binary artists
Ffotogallery are looking for emerging artists and photographers who identify as female or non-binary, who have an interest in learning more about what happens between exhibitions at contemporary art spaces, to get hands-on experience in gallery technician work.

Cardiff University and Ffotogallery are delighted to offer a fully funded Welsh Graduate School for the Social Sciences (WGSSS) (ESRC DTP) studentship under the Journalism, Digital Media and Democracy Pathway.

Belongers : A short film by Imperial War Museum
A short film by IWM Partnerships on Belongers. Audrey Albert’s commission celebrates the multiplicity of Chagossian identities. Developed over two years, it includes portraiture, documentary, moving-image, cyanotypes and a Chagossian Kaz (hut).
An IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund commission in partnership with Ffotogallery, Cardiff.
