Katie Waite
Exhibition Opening: Friday 11 October, 5 - 8pm
Selected as part of the Ffoto Cymru International Open Call, Training Bra is an ongoing project sharing the dialogue between photographer, Katie Waite and the Jungian inner child.
Waite’s practice combines constructed documentary and self-portraiture to examine ideas of transformation, femininity, and maternal strength. Using personal archives and collected ephemera Waite's work explores intimate dialogues between herself and the audience.
For Training Bra, that essential post-adolescent mix of self-realisation, confusion and nostalgia are the core feelings driving the project, taking the form of self-portraiture, documentary photography and archival material, with everything from webcam stills to high-spec DSLR photographs becoming equal content for the project overall.
This work taps into the critical mass of Gen Z’s who are connecting online through the universal pains of coming of age, examining the contemporary complexities of self-perspective and self-worth. Training Bra encapsulates the turbulence of early adulthood, bridging narratives between the child of the past and the person of today.
Opening Hours
