Taking Matt Colquhoun’s recent book Narcissus in Bloom: An Alternative History of the Selfie (Repeater Books, 2023), as a starting point, this exhibition, installed along the ground floor Library corridor of USW’s Cardiff Campus, includes over 60 images selected by Colquhoun from an open call inviting submissions of selfies or photographic self-portraits. The images presented explore how depictions of the self are not simply a product of subjective stasis in a stagnant capitalist world, but rather a measure of our capacity for self-transformation and a window into the changes we are constantly undergoing.

The exhibition accompanies a talk and book signing by Matt Colquhoun on Wednesday 16th October, 2pm-3.30pm at USW, Cardiff. Tickets to this talk can be booked here.
