Open Call: Pink Portraits 2024

The Iris Prize and Ffotogallery, in partnership with Transport for Wales, are delighted to announce a new opportunity for up to two early-career photographers based in Wales.

Following the success of Dylan Lewis Thomas’ Pink Portraits commission in 2023, the successful applicants will be invited to create ten new portraits of some of Transport for Wales’ LGBTQ+ staff members, to be exhibited in early June (location TBC) and also included in Pride Cymru.

This opportunity is open to all early career photographers currently based in Wales who identify as LGBTQ+ or who are supporters and allies of the community.

To enter please submit the following via email to [email protected]:

• Your full name, date of birth and email address in a word document.

• A selection of up to 10 photographs demonstrating your skills at portraiture (72dpi)

• Submit a short written or video statement (up to 250 words/3 minute long) outlining your interest in working on the project

• Artist statement/CV (100 words max) including a link to your website/social media, where applicable
  

Submissions are open from 9am on 31 January 2024.

Deadline for submissions is 5pm on Monday 26 February. The successful applicants will be informed in early March.

We are hoping to commission two photographers from locations across Wales to create five portraits each, with a fee of £500 awarded to each individual. In the event that one photographer is selected, they will be awarded the full £1000 fee to create ten portraits. Travel and other appropriate costs will also be covered.

Images submitted for this opportunity will not be published, reproduced or otherwise shared outside of Iris and Ffotogallery without the artist’s permission.
