NEW EXHIBITION: ASSIGNMENTS 23
9 JUNE - 22 JULY

Ffotogallery is pleased to present - for the first time in Wales - Assignments 23, the British Press Photographers’ Association’s annual exhibition celebrating the best of press photography from its members.

This year’s exhibition covers stories from July 2021 through to the Spring of 2023 and features everything from sports and entertainment to politics and protests with royals, celebrities, and global events as seen through the eyes of the association’s photographers.

We hope you can join us from 6pm on Thursday 8th June for the exhibition preview, where we will also be joined by multi-award winning photographer and filmmaker Joann Randles who will be sharing a presentation of her work from 7.45pm. Free admission - open to all. Refreshments provided.

INSTAGRAM TAKEOVER

Head over to our Instagram account to see what Samuel Patrick Hunter is up to, the latest in a series of artist takeovers. Samuel is a photographer, visual artist, and bookmaker from the West Midlands. He seeks to explore both self and collective identity within the world around us. Through engaging with those on the fringes of society, he aims to provide an insight into the unknown and use images as making sense of his own mind, and the minds of others.

TEA & CAKE TUESDAY

The next tea and cake Tuesday takes place on Tuesday 13th of June 2023. We will be open between 11am-1pm with staff on hand to greet you and tell you more about the exhibitions and events coming up at Ffotogallery. It will also give you a chance to have a quiet look at our current exhibition, Assignments 23. We look forward to seeing you and chatting over a cuppa and some cake.

IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT

We are delighted to announce that Ffotogallery is part of the IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund, a national partnership programme of over 20 artist commissions inspired by the heritage of conflict. Led by Imperial War Museums, the IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund was created following the success of 14-18 NOW, the official UK arts programme for the First World War centenary.

Common Wealth are thrilled to host Phil Minton’s incredible project Feral Choir – a series of vocal workshops with non-professionals and self confessed non singers, leading to an outdoor performance.

Phil Minton will facilitate a two day workshop and performance in East Cardiff encouraging the exploration of voice, inviting participants to take a vocal leap and explore possibilities through vocal exercises and improvisations.

Contemporary Conversations

Contemporary Conversations is a participant-led group supported by the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. Currently meeting online twice a month, the group discuss ideas and themes from current and recent art exhibitions. They also run a programme of artist films and documentaries. The group are usually based at the Gallery but regularly travel offsite to other cultural venues and artist studios.

Public Art Call Out

Wales Millennium Centre are inviting applications from Wales-based artists, community groups and/or arts organisations to create a hanging exhibition for their new café bar Ffwrnais. This Summer they will be highlighting the climate crisis by creating and sharing multiple works, and your public art exhibition will be a part of this, showing your take on climate change.
